Switzerland, Airfare Discounts and Things to do While there
Ahhh, Switzerland, the land of the Alps, historical architecture, museums, and large bank accounts. Smile. Switzerland has a reputation to uphold. One that can be attributed to Hollywood movies, some of which portray gangsters saving money in large Swiss bank accounts. For the sake of this article though, we’re going to concentrate on the tourist attractions found in Switzerland, and hope that your bank account has the resources to take you where you need to go in this land of adventure and intrigue.
Switzerland airfare discounts are available during seasonal and off-season specials. Usually the airlines and hotels offer decent flight plans with comfortable accommodations even for the pickiest of travelers. Even from Switzerland, airfare discounts to other countries nearby are reasonable and quite easy to obtain. The key is doing a little research, planning and shopping around. Sometimes there are last minute Switzerland airfare packages available and at other times, planning ahead when there is a special advertised, is the way to go.
Cobblestones, cathedrals, historical neighborhoods, art galleries, and zoos are all wonderful attractions found in Zurich. The city is a buzz with activity, culture and wonderful food and pastries. People from all over the world gather in Zurich, when visiting Switzerland. Airfare discounts to Zurich are quite common and reasonable.
The Swiss Alps
Breathtaking might be a good word to describe the majestic peaks that attract tourists to its peaceful villages nestled in the hills. On your way up to the Alps, you’re likely to hear cowbells clinking, see the glimmering lakes shinning, and be awe-stricken by the picturesque scenery to the top.
Skiing in Zermatt
Perhaps Switzerland is best know for its wonderful skiing opportunities. Switzerland airfare and hotel specials may even offer a ski package that’s right for you and your family. Be sure to ask your travel agent about such packages.
There are 29 peaks over 13,200 ft in Matterhorn, Zermatt, the country’s best-known ski resort. These are the highest mountains in all of Europe. Because of the high altitudes and northern exposure of the slopes in Zermatt, powdered snow remains for days after it falls and accumulates. Even in spring, lots of powdered snow remains around the terrain, so that skiing continues.
Just saying the word “Geneva” out loud conjures the romance of Switzerland. Here in Geneva you’ll find Jet d’Eau, the world’s tallest water fountain! Lonely Planet reports that it shoots water into the air with such an incredible force – 124 mph and 1360 horsepower that it creates a 469 ft. plume.
Of course while in Geneva, you can’t miss strolling through the remarkable St. Peter’s Cathedral. Construction took place in 1160 and it took 150 years to complete. It has Gothic features and a neoclassical façade was added in 1750. There is much history to this landmark, and one that will capture your senses as you walk through its sanctuary and structure.
These are only a few places to put on your list of things to see and do while in Switzerland. When shopping for your best Switzerland airfare discount, ask your travel agent for brochures and websites specifically designed for the adventurous traveler.
