If you’re looking for a neat little notebook in the $1,000 to $1,500 range, then you may want to check out the Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301.
One of the best features of the Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 is the battery life. The battery charge will last around 4 hours and 11 minutes on one charge, shattering all previous records for Pentium 4 notebooks in various tests. It’s also has an eye-catching design with a blue lid, silver-clad speakers, a semitransparent keyboard, and easy access music controls.
The one drawback to the Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 is the weight. If you’re looking for a workout with your notebook, you may get it with lugging this around. At 8.3 pounds, excluding the power adaptor and phone cord, it’s kind of heavy. It’s also about 2.3 inches thick.
The Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 is well equipped. If you’ve got CPU or memory intensive applications, the Intel Pentium 4 processor with 2.40GHz, 512MB, PC2100 DRR memory, and an ATI M6-P graphics controller with 32MB DDR memory should be more than enough to do the job. The cool part is that the system memory is expandable to 1024MB, which allows you to do quite a bit of multi-tasking. It’s also equipped with Microsoft Windows XP Home operating system. It also includes a built in V.90 modem, 15” active matrix display, and an 8X CD-ROM / DVD combination.
If you’re a desktop user seeking a notebook replacement, which is the target audience for the Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301, this laptop offers a fixed combination drive on the right side of the case and a fixed floppy drive on the left. The stylish keyboard is easy to type on. In addition to the usual accoutrements, it has an S-Video-out port for hooking up a TV to display presentations, videos, or images. If you own a digital camcorder, you may appreciate that the Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 also has a FireWire port, which is useful for downloading digital movies. You supply the editing software.
For all you audiophiles, The Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 is definitely a notebook you will enjoy. The conveniently front mounted music CD controls, which include LCD status panel and a volume control wheel on the side. Unfortunately, there’s no dedicated power switch to allow you to use the notebook as a stand alone CD player. The big speakers are somewhat of a disappointment. They sound a bit flat and not as loud as you would expect from such large speakers.
The Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 also offers the standard touchpad pointing, which a nice feature is not found on some notebooks and easier for most people to use than a small pointing device in the middle of the keypad. Lotus SmartSuite Millennium Edition is included along with software that is normally pre-loaded like Word and Excel.
Although a little bulky in size, for under two grand, the Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 is a super cool notebook with lots of horsepower, great looks, and good choice for those who are looking for a desktop replacement.
