Derek Jeter epitomizes New York Yankee baseball. Incredibly polite, Jeter has become a beloved superstar in a city that can be difficult for athletes, but is the greatest place in the world for winners. Jeter’s most positive attribute is that he comes up big in the most crucial of moments. If the Yankees are playing in a big game, expect Derek to produce.

Derek Jeter was born in New Jersey, but was discovered in Kalamazoo Michigan where he became one of the nation's most sought-after high school baseball players. Jeter was recruited by almost every major college, but instead chose to sign with the Yankees after being drafted in his senior year of high school.

Jeter supported the Yankees' decision to make him their first round pick by winning the minor league Player of the Year award. He hit .344 in the minor leagues, which had the Yankees eager to get him in the lineup.

Jeter first donned the New York Yankee pinstripes in 1995, and then became their everyday shortstop in 1996. Jeter became the first Yankee rookie since 1962 to start at shortstop. He wasn't intimidated by the bright lights, hitting .314 and helping lead the Yankees to the World Series championship. To top it all off, he won the Rookie of the Year award. DJ was already a New York Yankee sensation. His youth, good looks, and success captured the interest of fans and non-fans. Though Jeter was just getting started. In 1998, he was named to his first All-Star team. He played solid in the field and was dangerous at the plate, Jeter developed more power by 1999. As the Yankees sought their second straight Series title and third in four years, Jeter hit .348 but also smashed a career high 24 home runs, 102 RBI and an amazing slugging percentage of .552. The New York Yankee club house was his domain and everyone followed his lead.

In 2000, Jeter was again amazing. He was the All Star game MVP and played some of his best baseball in the post-season. Derek continued his streak of errorless play at shortstop and his hitting was a big factor in another New York Yankee championship. He’s the first player in major league history to win both the All Star and World Series MVP trophies in the same season.

Jeter remains a bachelor and lives in Tampa, Florida during the off-season. But enjoys the New York nightlife during the baseball season, often being seen at trendy nightspots with a plethora of supermodels by his side. DJ has certainly become a New York Yankee icon. He thrives on pressure with a competitive nature second to none. He's been a major contributor to the New York Yankee success and incredible string of post-season victories.

When all is said and done, Derek Jeter will be added to the New York Yankee pantheon that includes the likes of Joe DiMaggio and Babe Ruth.
