Using Calcium for Weight Loss 

Can you really use calcium for weight loss? Apparently so. Recently, a number of studies have come out stating that using calcium for weight loss was successful. Here's an excerpt from an article in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition that was published in April 2002. The article discussed the research findings of R. P. Heaney and colleagues from Creighton University in Nebraska.

"...increasing calcium intake by the equivalent of two dairy servings per day could reduce the risk of overweight substantially, perhaps by as much as 70 percent."

The calcium that was used in the study was only three hundred milligrams more than the control subjects used.

Using calcium for weight loss isn’t the only thing it’s good for. Eating a diet that has an adequate amount of calcium has also been shown to lower blood pressure, may help reduce PMS symptoms, and some doctors believe it can help cut the risk of colon cancer.

To top it all off, calcium for weight loss is inexpensive when compared to buying other weight loss products, many of which are questionable in terms of safety and effectiveness.

Though be sure not to take too much calcium. Too much can be just as detrimental as too little. Your body stores calcium and overloading it with a large amount could potentially be harmful to your system. So even though you might be excited to use calcium for weight loss, don’t try to take too much in the hopes that more will equal faster weight loss. All it will lead to is an upset stomach.

If you are lactose intolerant and cannot drink milk, there are many other avenues to get your calcium for weight loss. There’s soy milk, calcium powders, and calcium supplements. Personally, I enjoy drinking soy milk. You get the calcium you need and it tastes almost exactly like real milk(some would even say it tastes better).

Please don’t think calcium is some miracle weight loss product. Yes, adding more calcium would be beneficial to your help. But using just calcium for weight loss is not a smart thing. You still need to eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly. No vitamin, drug, and cream will come out that can replace eating right and staying active.
