Where on earth do you start with such a rich endowment of antiques or modern day ware?
Do you go for the Chinese smart crane who is saying apparently “I am not sure if this is a perfect place to live. It would be better that you guys stay here. I will take a look first.” Made entirely of one piece of wood this bird collectible is a painstaking masterpiece by a craftsperson from the Far East. The price of around $170 is really rather cheap for something that may have taken days - or even weeks - to carve.
Or do you decide on the Sleepy Time Big Bird Collectible musical doll? This is Big Bird playing ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ when you squeeze him. Very soft washable plush makes this more than a plaything - this bird collectible could even possibly be a rather unusual heirloom! And for about $25 they are good value for money and Gund hand and glove puppets are justly famous.
Or instead why not buy the bird collectible referred to as Sankofa? There are three versions and at just under a foot high, made of beautiful hardwood they would stand proudly in your home. The word Sankofa is very significant in the Akan society in Ghana. Sankofa means one should look to their past to get what they have lost. Hence the bird looking in a rear position symbolizes just that. They are round about $18 to buy.
What a glorious choice to have to make.
Bird Collectible - a Coming Antique
This is a 1973 genuine Rumph Pottery Mug of a Buzzard sitting on a tree. Look inside and you’ll see that the bird has left a rather unwelcome gift!
Marked on the bottom this is a bird collectible you’ll want. At seven inches high it’s not a too imposing piece - but it’ll be a perennial point of conversation for your guests.
Bird Collectible - a Real Antique
This is a very small size hollow Roman bird head sculpture. It’s old, slightly knocked about but is a genuine Roman antique which would be a lovely addition to your bird collectible collection.
At about $16 it isn’t expensive - but what an addition to your treasures.
For sale at around $100 dollars is an extremely rare and nice stylized bird bronze sculpture with iron middle. This is a very rare piece, although it might not look extremely scarce at first glance.
I think that such pieces are called a ‘water stick’.
The bird was set on the end of an iron stick , only to be used by local senators for voting. They held their hands up with such a stick and were counted . Again this is a very real Roman antique and would be a proud addition to your collection.
Bird collectibles allow you an almost limitless supply of large small or large but beautiful items for your delectation. Do enjoy them.
