Every year, there is a plethora of baseball free agent talent
available. This winter will be no different. Heres a look
at some of the top free agents available...
Baseball Free Agent #1Pedro Martinez
He is one of the best pitchers of all time and is commanding
a lot of attention on the market. The Boston Red Sox, New York
Yankees, and New York Mets have all shown strong interest. The
Red Sox have reportedly offered Pedro a two year/twenty-five million
dollar contract, with an option for a third year. The Yankees
might trump that offer by giving Pedro a four-year deal. The Mets
are the real wild card. Would they be willing to overpay for Pedro
and trump both offers? Well see. My money is Pedro winding
up back in Boston.
Baseball Free Agent #2Carlos Beltran
He came up big during the postseason and now hes going
to cash in during the off season. Houston, the Chicago Cubs, and,
of course, the Yankees are in the running for Beltran. His agent
is supposedly asking for a ten year/two hundred million dollar
contract. In my opinion, Beltran isnt worth that kind of
money. I mean, thats A-Rod money, and Beltran certainly
isnt in the same class as Rodriguez- but who is? The only
team I see even thinking about giving him that kind of money is
the Yankees. Thats why I think Beltran will sign with New
York.
Baseball Free Agent #3Carlos Delgado
Hes one of the best first basemen available in this free
agent market. Delgado is coming off a solid year in Toronto and
is looking at a big pay cut (was getting paid eighteen million
dollars last season). If he were willing to play for maybe eight
to ten million dollars per year, then a number of teams would
love to have him. As of now, the Seattle Mariners are showing
the most interest.
Baseball Free Agent #4Nomar Garciaparra
He didnt help get the Cubs back to playoff contention,
but he did play well after arriving in Chicago. He will probably
get a nice-sized contract just because he still has name recognition.
The Anaheim Angels seem to be interested, as do the New York Mets.
A crazy scenario thats been discussed is Nomar signing with
the Yankees and moving to second base. I dont see it happening,
but you never know with George.
Baseball Free Agent #5Adrian Beltre
Beltre is definitely one of the best third basemen on the market.
He put up impressive numbers with the Dodgers. He could very well
re-sign with Los Angeles. But, if they dont keep him, look
for Anaheim, the New York Mets, and Boston Red Sox to show interest.
